William Steeple Davis artist in residence Frieda Dean will present an exhibit titled “Orient Gleaning” Sept. 29 to Oct. 6 at Oysterponds Historical Society’s Janet T. Swanson Gallery in Orient. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. The show is open daily, noon to 5 p.m. Ms. Dean’s work, in various media, was inspired by the shells, sea foliage and other beach detritus she collected during her year of beachcombing and wandering through Orient.
Paintings by Lee Cleary of Southold will be on view Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29, at Southold Historical Society’s Reichert Family Center Cosden Price Gallery in downtown Southold. A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 28.
Members of the North Shore Art Guild will show their work in an exhibit hosted by Southold Historical Society from Oct. 3 to 12 in the society’s Reichert Family Center. The featured artists are James Berger, Marlene Bezich, Rhoda Gordon, Barbara Bilotta, Sally Anne Keller, Mac Titmus, Carol Miller, Arlene Thek-Pizzuti, Nicky Van Deckter, Kathleen McArdle, JoAnn Corretti, Anne Katz, Christopher Reisman, Christopher Alexander, Kristin Costa and Linda Crispi. Exhibition hours are Thursday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.
“Sticks & Stones: Deconstruction,” an exhibit of sculpture and photography by local artist Jared Loveless, will open with a reception Saturday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport. The sculptures, created from materials found during Mr. Loveless’ walks along Long Island Sound, will be shown only at the opening; the photos will be on view through Nov. 3.
“Roots at Rothman’s,” an art/music event featuring the work of Valley Stream artist Mike Stanko and music by Caroline Doctorow, will take place Saturday, Sept. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rothman’s Gallery in Southold. Mr. Stanko works in the “New American” style of painting, “which blends life’s traditional scenes and imagined surroundings within a whirlwind of pop culture and color,” according to a press release. Hand-colored photo prints by gallery founder Ron Rothman, will also be on display. The exhibits will be open through Dec. 31. Ms. Doctorow and the Steamrollers will be joined by Job Potter & Friends.
“Lines,” an exhibit of work by photographers Jim Sabiston and Alex Vignoli, will open with a reception Friday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery in Cutchogue. The show will continue through Nov. 3. Mr. Sabiston is an award-winning freelance photographer, mostly self-taught; he is based on Long Island. His subjects range from classic landscapes to the modern concrete architecture of New York City to abstracts. Mr. Vignoli, a native of Brazil, lives and works on the East End. He works in fine art photography, digital collage, paintings, illustrations, art objects and sculpture. The two artists will give a gallery talk at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.
The Cloud Nine North Fork Painting Group will present plein air local scenes from Oct. 1 to 31 at The Lenz Winery in Peconic. An artists’ reception is set for Friday, Oct. 4, 5 to 8 p.m. Participating artists are Joan Curran, Adelaide Amend, BL Moyle, Ann McCaughey, Fran Reichert, Laurie Ullmann, Dolores Castrucci, Anne Dilworth and Jada Rowland.
A group show by members of the Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild of Cutchogue will be held during October at Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library.
Call for singers: East End Arts’ Harvest Gospel Choir invites community singers for its 27th annual Harvest Gospel Concerts, which will be held in November at three East End venues. The choir is led by artistic director Maryanne McElroy. Rehearsals will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 19 and 26 and Nov. 2 and 9, at Friendship Baptist Church in Flanders. A Nov. 16 rehearsal may also be held. There are no auditions, but singers must be available for all four rehearsals and all three performances. Concerts will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Mattituck Presbyterian Church; Friday, Nov. 22, at Southampton Cultural Center; and Saturday, Nov. 23, at Friendship Baptist Church.
