Jeanette Vecchione

Music lovers on Shelter Island are in for a genuine treat: an evening of great singing from the extraordinary, young coloratura soprano, Jeanette Vecchione. on Sunday, September 1, at 8 p.m. She will perform music from operas of Handel, Verdi, Puccini and Bernstein, as well as beloved melodies from legendary Broadway musicals.

Ms. Vecchione is originally from Long Island and holds a degree in music from Julliard. Although still in her twenties, she has sung major roles at the Vienna State Opera and also in Paris and Buenos Aires. Last January she made a sensational debut at the Florida Grand Opera as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”

Music critics and audiences in Europe and in America have been stunned by Ms. Vecchione’s easy command of the most difficult arias in the stratospheric coloratura range. Her remarkable singing of Mozart’s “Der Holle Rache” from “The Magic Flute” may be heard on her website at JeanetteVecchione.com.

This highlight of the music season will be presented by the Shelter Island Friends of Music at the Presbyterian Church. Concert-goers will have a chance to meet this amazing musician at a reception following the program.
