This Thursday August 15, the Suffolk Theater will play host to a concert and traditional-style radio broadcast when it hosts the musical performance Songtrails.
Caroline Doctorow will host the show and perform alongside famed country songwriter Hugh Prestwood, indie rocker Inda Eaton and others.
The concert will be reminiscent of old time musical performances that were performed “in a casual writers-in-the-round type setting with a house band, in the style of an old time radio broadcast.”
Doctorow’s newest release, “Little Lovin’ Darling” will be available this summer. She has also released a collection of retrospective albums interpreting the works of early American Folk Songwriters. One critic claimed that her work was “…one of the best collections of the recording of specific artists.” She has opened for The Band, Alison Krauss, Tim O’Brien and Richie Havens. This summer she will also appear at the famed New York arts institution, Chautauqua.
Chances are you’ve heard a couple of Hugh Prestwood’s songs, as he has been writing hit country songs for the past three decades. He has recorded chart toppers for Randy Travis, Trisha Yearwood, Michael Johnson, Shenandoah, Krystal Gare and Collin Raye. He has also written songs for Jimmy Buffet, who he was inducted alongside into the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Prestwood has also been nominated three times for a Grammy in the “best performance category.
Inda Eaton, now based out of East Hampton, is known for her unique sound that has won her over fans in the rock, country and acoustic genres all over the world. She is well known for her live performances where she covers mellow acoustic, country and hard core rock & roll songs. She has been a regular at festivals like Tempe Music Fest and Gateway’s Saturday in the Park. She has opened for the likes of John Hiatt, Blues Traveler, Earl Scruggs, Hootie and the Blowfish, LeAnn Rimes, Shemekia Copeland, and Molly Hatchet.
