Known for its progressive, fine-dining menu North Fork Table and Inn in Southold is taking its dedication to fresh, local ingredients to another level this summer. The restaurant hosts a weekly farmers market each Friday in the back of the eatery.

The idea is the brainchild of owner Gerry Hayden. On a whim Hayden said he “threw it together,” but his choice of vendors is well thought out.  He only invited local businesses that provide local eggs, meats, produce and baked goods that he serves daily.

“I put these people head and shoulders above the rest,” Hayden said.

The vendors feel the same about Hayden.

It is such a great restaurant,” Holly Browder of Browder’s Birds said. “They support local business and we want to support them.”

In addition to Browder’s Bird’s participants include Invincible Summer Farms, 8 Hands Farm and McCall Vineyards Ranch, which provides fresh cuts of beef.

Pastry chef, Claudia Fleming, will also stop by to serve up baked treats such as cinnamon buns and cookies.

The farmers market at North Fork Table and Inn is held every Friday all summer long from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

If you need a meal after you’re finished shopping the restaurant is now serving lunch on Fridays, Hayden said.
