Book clubs have a bit of a reputation for being stuffy and pretentious, but at The Riverhead Project things are done a little differently.
As one of several community-centered “projects,” The Riverhead Project restaurant hosts its own “book project” on the last Wednesday of every month. The Book Project is essentially a book club with a literary discussion as well as complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
This month’s book is The Best American Short Stories 2012, edited by Tom Perrotta.
It is one of the books published annually that highlights the country’s finest short fiction and nonfiction from magazines, journals, and websites. A special guest editor, this past year’s being best-selling novelist and screenwriter Tom Perrotta, chooses the best twenty pieces to be published in the collection.
Head down to The Riverhead Project tonight, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. to eat and discuss the great pieces of writing. The Book Project takes place in the vault, the lounge room that still holds the structural elements of the bank that used to be in the building.
The book choice for the month of July will be posted on the restaurant’s website shortly. After it is announced, you can pick up the book at BookHampton in Mattituck at a 50 percent discount.
The Riverhead Project is located at 300 East Main Street in Riverhead. Call (631) 284-9300 for more information.
