Do you ever wish you could taste an ingredient before you buy it and cook with it? This Sunday (June 23) Castello di Borghese Vineyard in Cutchogue allows its customers to do just that with their “olive oil showdown.”

For this weekend’s showdown, the vineyard pits two different families of olive oil against each other: the Borghese family and the Mirisola family.

The Riniglio’s (Borghese family) extra virgin olive oil is from Calabria, Italy and the two Mirisola family extra virgin olive oils hail from the hills of Sicily.

Guests are invited to sample the flavorful olive oils with fresh Italian bread and then vote on (and possibly buy) their favorite. The winning olive oil will be announced at the end.

The event is free and from 2 to 4 p.m. at the vineyard, located at 17150 County Road 48 in Cutchogue. For more information visit the website at or call at (631) 734-5111.

There are also now Borghese olives available for purchase in the tasting room.
