Long Island Native Plant Initiative’s East End plant sale continues through 2 p.m. today, Saturday, at Suffolk County Community College Eastern Campus in Northampton, aka the Riverhead campus.
All plants on sale were grown from seed gathered on Long Island.
At the event Friday, Diane Herold of Westhampton (photo) got introduced to the Virginia Mountain Mint by Long Island Native Plant Initiative president Paul Anderson of Calverton. He pointed out to her that the mint is a deer-resistant plant, because deer don’t like the way it smells or tastes.
Ms. Herold on Friday was buying plants for a buffer she is planting for the Town of Southampton in Remsenburg.
The sale is held in greenhouses at the college campus.
