The must have produce this time of year: Asparagus.
“Asparagus is king” this time of year, said Dawn Carlson, produce manager of Harbes Family Farm. The spring crop has been fresh for the picking since April, and will remain a staple produce through June.
Ms. Carlson recommends keeping preparation simple. Roast it on a baking sheet at about 400 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes. Give it a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and fresh ground pepper to taste, before popping it in the oven.
Asparagus makes a great addition cut up in omelets, pasta, or even made into a cream of asparagus soup. Wrapping it in bacon is also one of Ms. Carlson’s favorite way to prepare it.
