Step inside the holiday-themed and decorated homes of East Marion and Orient residents to celebrate the season and help a good cause.

Oysterponds Historical Society hosts its annual Holiday House Tour this Saturday, December 9 from noon to 4 p.m. The self-guided tour features new and old homes dressed in seasonal finery.

Participants will receive a map of the tour with a brief description of each location. The interiors of the homes will be decorated, with some homeowners making their entire residence available and some opening up just a portion to tour-goers.

The tour includes eight decorated homes in Orient, one  in East Marion as well as four historic buildings decorated for the holidays.

Tour organizer Catherin Chauhuri noted the event draws groups from Nassau County, Queens and beyond and that up to 400 people have attended in some years. Some of the stops feature storied histories, she said.

“It’s rumored that Ingrid Bergman summered at one of the houses on the tour,” Chaudhuri said, declining to identify the location for those who have not yet purchased tickets.

The tour is great for those looking for decoration inspiration and helps get participants in the holiday spirit, Chaudhuri added.

Other public buildings that are part of the tour include the Orient Country Store on Village Lane, which will serve complimentary cookies. The Old Point Schoolhouse, which houses the Beach Plum Christmas Shop, will be open from noon to 4 p.m.

House tour tickets are $30 for the public and $25 for members of the historical society. All proceeds benefit the Oysterponds Historical Society.

Tickets can be purchased online now at oysterpondshistoricalsociety.org. For more information call (631) 323-2480.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Orient Congregational Church starting at 11:30 a.m. the morning of the event. The church is located at 23045 Main Road in Orient.
