Hortons Point Lighthouse in Southold. (Credit: Vera Chinese)

The lighthouse is open weekends from 11:30 to 4:00 from May 23 through October 12. Explore the nautical museum, the building’s rich history and visit the tower for a panoramic view of the Long Island Sound and the surrounding park.
The Southold Historical Society renovated the historic building in the 1970s after years of non-use and a nautical museum opened to the public in 1977. Another massive restoration project took place in 1990, when the 58-foot tall tower was repaired.
The structure was revamped in 2006 and today is run through a partnership between the Southold Historical Society and the Southold Park District. It is listed on both the national and state registers of historic places.
Admission is $3 per person, children under 12 are free. Groups are encouraged during the week by appointment. Volunteers are always needed. For additional information go to http://www.southoldhistoricalsociety.org/lighthouse.htm or call 631-765-5500.
