In 2014, the East Marion lavender farm Lavender By the Bay suddenly found itself attracting hundreds, if not thousands, of tourists to the tiny hamlet every weekend.

Three years later, busloads of visitors still descend on the 17-acre farm when the plants are in bloom. They pose in the purple fields and snap selfies for Instagram.

Now the sustained uptick in visitors has caught the attention of the Wall Street Journal, which explored this quirky story this week. An article titled “Purple Craze: The Lavender of Long Island Attracts Mystery Crowds,” was printed on the paper’s front page on Monday. (more…)

While many people associate the lively acidity and tropical fruit flavor of sauvignon blanc with wine from New Zealand, Long Island oenophiles know that our region produces a tasty expression of the grape.

Wall Street Journal wine columnist Lettie Teague acknowledged Long Island sauvignon blanc as a variety worth seeking out in a May 20 article entitled “Sauvignon Blanc for the Savvy: A Global Guide to Top Ten Bottles.” (It’s behind a paywall.) (more…)

More East End food purveyors are offering picnics to-go and The Gray Lady has taken note.

Fork and Anchor in East Marion, which offers takeout meals as well as delivery options, was mentioned as a North Fork staple for vineyard or beach picnics in a recent article in the New York section of The New York Times. (more…)
