Sarah Nappa, co-owner of Peconic’s The Winemaker Studio and its adjoining Italian market, Provisions & Ingredients, might never have landed on the North Fork if she hadn’t caught the travel bug while in college.

The 34-year-old native of Littleton, Colo., was an animal science major at Colorado State University when she decided to study abroad in New Zealand and met her future husband, winemaker Anthony Nappa.

“He was doing his wine degree and I was doing animal science,” she said. (more…)

The Riverhead Project on East Main Street in downtown Riverhead.

The Riverhead Project was one of several North Fork restaurants to make Newsday’s Top 100 Long Island Restaurants.

Several North Fork restaurants—The Riverhead Project, Noah’sTurkhaz Grill and  Shelter Island’s 18 Bay—made Newsday’s list of Top 100 Restaurants on Long Island (though we’re a little surprised at the omission of North Fork Table). (more…)

The Winemaker Studio in Peconic is a tasting room for small producers on the East End.

The Winemaker Studio is a place for the unconventional and the obscure; a tasting room for the little guy.

Owner and independent wine maker Anthony Nappa opened the Peconic Lane studio this summer to highlight not only his own label, but to collaborate with other local and independent winemakers who may otherwise not have a place to showcase their wines.

“A region reaches a certain maturity when you can populate a tasting room with independent winemakers,” Mr. Nappa said. “None of us would have enough wine to support a tasting room, but it works if we do it together.” (more…)
