Elizabeth Wagner didn’t have to look far to find a family connection to art.

From the time she was a teenager, the Riverhead fine art photographer has watched her mother, Gayle, devote much of her time to artistic pursuits.

It was in 2002, when the elder Ms. Wagner was diagnosed with brain cancer and forced to resign from her government job, that she began to dedicate her free time to art. A creative individual who felt the need to keep herself stimulated in her post-work life, Ms. Wagner took up photography as a therapeutic endeavor.

Her daughter, Elizabeth, now 28, has also decided to leave a government job behind to build a career in photography. And her hometown is the subject of her latest effort, dubbed The Gummy Bear Project, which will be on display next week as part of East End Arts’ annual JumpstART program.  (more…)

The Rotary Club of Riverhead will hold its 10th annual “Rotary Uncorked” benefit at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead this Wednesday, May 25, from 6 to 9 p.m.

That’s right: Mark your calendars because Riverhead’s second annual SantaCon Pub Crawl is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5.

Restaurateurs Matt DeMar and John Cestare have heeded the call of hungry Riverhead area residents in search of a downtown brunch spot for after church services or weekend youth soccer games.

Sonoma Grill Riverhead, which opened in late August, is serving up wraps, pastas and brick-oven pizza inside the former East Main Street bank building that most recently housed the upscale restaurant the Riverhead Project.

But on a recent visit, the real stars were the eatery’s brunch offerings, which include cookies and cream pancakes ($12, made with Oreo chunks) and Nutella crepes with a house-made filling ($9). These are decadent dishes sure to sate your sweet tooth. (more…)

The resurgence of Riverhead continues with the opening of the latest downtown restaurant, Sonoma Grill.

The new eatery is located at 300 E. Main St., which is the former home of The Riverhead Project. Owners Matt Demar and John Cestare also own a restaurant by the same name in Holtsville. (more…)

A new restaurant located at the site that most recently housed The Riverhead Project could open by the end of March.

Owners Matt Demar and John Cestare, who updated the Riverhead Town Board on their plans for the building at at meeting Thursday, said they plan to feature live music as well as food at the location, which will likely be called Sonoma Grill. The pair signed a lease in November.
