As a major winter storm is preparing to bear down on the East End, here’s something that came across our desk that cheered us up a bit.

The Winter Painkiller is a hot cocktail now being served up at Red Maple, the cozy new American restaurant and bar at The Chequit on Shelter Island.

The inspiration for The Winter Painkiller comes from David Bowd, CEO of Salt Hotels (owners of The Chequit) and one of his favorite concoctions, the Painkiller. (more…)

Shelter Island is more than a charming, boring version of the Hamptons, a bucolic identity that travel writers have stuck on it. The island has welcomed visitors for two centuries with a contrariness that comes with being able to roll up the gangplanks every night and let the rest of the world go to hell. After just opening this past summer, Red Maple restaurant at the Chequit Inn has introduced its new fall menu showcasing heartier fall foods.

“The team has worked very hard on the new menu and the feedback has been incredible,” said co-owner David Bowd, who along with Kevin O’Shea also owns two inns on Cape Cod. “We’re very excited.”
