Moustache Brewing Co., the tiny Riverhead craft beer producer with a large loyal following, is about to grow fourfold.
Co-owners Lauri and Matt Spitz announced earlier this week that they have signed a lease to take over the rest of the building that houses their Hallet Avenue operation, increasing their footprint from 1,400- to roughly 5,600-square-feet.
“We have been cramped in our space since a year after we opened,” Ms. Spitz said. “I have an office now, which is really exciting. I used to work on a pile of boxes.” (more…)

The first two floors didn’t count in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Climb to the Top fundraiser Feb. 28 at Rockefeller Center.
We traveled up escalators as my fellow participants and I remarked how excited we were to climb 66 flights of stairs with friends and family. Waiting for my turn reminded me of Space Mountain at Walt Disney World. During the slow, upward crawl, moments before reaching the peak, I asked myself, “Can I really do this?” (more…)

After a tour of Patchogue’s Blue Point Brewing Company and an introduction to Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Pale Ale, Lauri and Matt Spitz discovered an alternative to the abundant presence of monotonous, macro-produced beers. (more…)
As the East End continues to polish its image as a leading wine region, a new effort’s a-brewing to turn the region into a destination for craft beer enthusiasts.
Last month, Wine Enthusiast Magazine named the North and South Forks one of the world’s top wine destinations for 2013. In concert with that, two new Riverhead breweries are in the works, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company is expanding, and local farmers have begun to grow hops, an important ingredient in beer. (more…)
