The Collins template of drinks spans all spirits — the most notable being the “Tom Collins.”
The father of American cocktails, Jerry Thomas, once described the gin based cocktail as, “a sparkling lemonade spiked with a healthy dose of the juniper spirit.”
I remember being very young and hearing my grandmother ask for a Tom Collins at a family party. When I started making variations of the drink as a bartender that memory flooded back and really made me think about the drink. (more…)

The New Suffolk Waterfront Fund is bringing back its biggest fundraiser of the year after a one-year hiatus.
Moonlight and Country returns to the New Suffolk waterfront on Saturday, July 28. The evening features music, a special live auction and a country-themed dinner prepared by Southold catering company Grace & Grit. Expect a comfort food menu of Southern barbecue, corn bread, slaw and pie.
“It always ends up being a very homey type of event,” said NSWF board member Linda Auriemma. “It is a lot of friends from New Suffolk, and of course new people, which we’re always happy to have.” (more…)
Need a new, fun night out idea this winter? Check out Grace & Grit’s cocktail pop-up at the Bridge Lane tasting room in Mattituck.
So far this winter they have hosted two events at Bridge Lane and the third will be held March 31 from 6 to 10 p.m.
The menu includes signature cocktails by mixologist Joe Coleman. Drinks range from a Smoked Old Fashioned to a fruity El Mai Tai. Coleman also incorporates Bridge Lane wine into some cocktails. (more…)
