Earlier this week, I dropped by East Marion’s Fork and Anchor, which is hands down one of my favorite stops for grab-and-go sandwiches.

As usual, I opted for an email receipt. The proof of purchase was detailed: crispy chicken with Sriracha mayo on sourdough with lettuce, tomato and American cheese.

Our executive editor, Grant Parpan, who has been forwarded all my emails since before I embarked on 12 weeks of maternity leave in May (and who also happens to be my husband), received the receipt, too. His response consisted of just one word:

More East End food purveyors are offering picnics to-go and The Gray Lady has taken note.

Fork and Anchor in East Marion, which offers takeout meals as well as delivery options, was mentioned as a North Fork staple for vineyard or beach picnics in a recent article in the New York section of The New York Times. (more…)

North Fork Google Satellite

I still remember that strange feeling I had the first time I ever saw my childhood home on Google Earth. How did they do that? A UFO?

Then Google rolled out the street view featured on it’s maps. To this day, it’s the single biggest motivating factor for me mowing my lawn and not getting the newspaper in Tony Soprano morningwear.

Now Google has something even cooler for us to waste time with, a timeline that allows you to scroll through Google Earth and Street View images as they were captured over the years.  (more…)
