Now you can get creamy, indulgent gelato along with moussaka, pork souvlaki or rack of lamb at Hellenic Snack Bar and Restaurant.

But owner George Giannaris argues that selling a treat created by Italians is no betrayal of his Greek heritage.

“Theoretically, cannolis are Greek. Baklava is from Turkey,” he said. “The Mediterranean cuisine has become like a melting pot.” (more…)

Oysterponds Historical Society Holiday House Tour

A handful of Orient and East Marion residents opened their homes Saturday for Oysterponds Historical Society’s 31st annual holiday house tour.

The self-guided event featured new and old homes dressed in seasonal finery. It included six houses in Orient and two in East Marion, as well as four historic buildings.

More than 150 people attended, with all proceeds benefiting Oysterponds Historical Society. (more…)
