For centuries lighthouses have thrilled and fascinated people with their sense of mystery, sea lore and romance.

Author Eric Jay Dolin writes about these beacons of light, including some on Long Island, in his new book, “Brilliant Beacons: A History of the American Lighthouse.”

He comes to the North Fork this weekend to discuss America’s lighthouses and sign copies of his book. (more…)

Peconic Landing Palminteri Gay Harden

Greenport Village will play host to aspiring filmmakers and actors from across the country during the upcoming Fifth Annual Manhattan Film Institute North Fork Summer Workshop series.

The series offers free screenings of student films as well as three award-winning films that will be followed by celebrity Q & A discussions.

A local veteran couple has the chance to win a free wedding at the exquisite Brecknock Hall in Greenport.

Each year Peconic Landing partners with local businesses to offer a free Veterans Day wedding to a military couple. It is the sixth year the Greenport retirement community has offered the contest, dubbed the Veterans Day Wedding Giveback. (more…)
