Though the mercury would suggest otherwise, soon the kids will soon boarding school buses, autumn ales will be on tap and hordes of pumpkin pickers will descend on the East End.

One sure sign that this beautiful North Fork summer is winding down is the arrival of ripe, delicious watermelons at our local farm stands.

We recommend pairing this sweet, fleshy fruit with some salty feta cheese for a delectable summer salad. (more…)

After waiting on long lines outside big box stores and circling parking lots three or four times trying to find a decent spot during the Black Friday craziness, it’s time to  your support for local small business owners and their goods.

Tomorrow Nov. 28 is Small Business Saturday, a day  when local businesses from Riverhead to Orient (and across the country) are offering special deals and discounts.

When Joanne Cosonas was a little girl, there was a word her Greek mother would say when they were on their way to the store for things like feta, jarred grape leaves and leg of lamb.

It was “agora.”
