The New York Marine Rescue Center will host the 2022 Paddle Battle Long Island on Saturday, July 30 in Riverhead.

The family friendly event, a benefit to help sea turtles, includes a 2.5-mile amateur race, a 5-mile competitive race course and a casual paddle along the Peconic River. First-place medals will be handed out to winners in each category for class and distance.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on the Peconic Waterfront and costs $95. Rental canoes and kayaks are available for $35. Life vests are required and participants must wear their own personal floatation decide during the race.

The New York Marine Rescue Center is a rescue and rehabilitation organization that promotes marine conservation and preserves and protects the marine environment through conservation efforts including rescue, rehabilitation, education and research. The organization aims to help sick or injured seals, sea turtles, dolphins, porpoises and small toothed whales, and maintain the only marine mammal and sea turtle rehabilitation center in New York State.
