Once renovations are complete inside his new living quarters, Montauk Lighthouse Keeper Joe Gaviola will be New York’s easternmost resident. 

He’s the first new keeper of the light at Montauk in three decades, following in the footsteps of longtime keeper Margaret Winski.

We recently caught up with Gaviola to talk about his role at the iconic state park, as well as the history and allure of the property.
