There’s a slogan used by chambers of commerce across the country that reads live, work, play.

It’s a great way to go through life if you think about it. You do what you have to do so you can live and play the way you want to during the hours you’re not working.

When we created northforker.com in 2013, we borrowed a bit from this philosophy and made each of our categories verbs, thinking it made for a more active and playful reader experience.

And when we launched our magazine last year, we stuck with that theme and built in sections for the four verbs that best summed up our content: eat, drink, live and breathe.

It’s with this same mindset that we present Northforker TV. Each episode — we’re producing three for this first season — will feature segments about some of the people and places that make you want to eat, drink, live and breathe on the North Fork.

You can watch the full 21-minute episode above then rewatch your favorite segments below. For more about what’s in this inaugural episode, see the guide below.

Eat — Farm to Food Truck

Since 2017, Carly and Jonathan Copeland have been operating the food truck at 8 Hands Farm in Cutchogue, providing a unique “farm to food truck” experience North Fork foodies have come to love. The couple recently gave the Northforker TV team a tour of the property — owned by Carol Festa and Tom Geppel — to show how the animals raised and grown there influence the menu they offer.

Taste Test: Apple Cider Donuts

Northforker staffers Michelina Da Fonte and Krysten Massa square off in a battle to see who the true expert is on apple cider donuts. Served donuts from Harbes Family Farm, Wickham’s Fruit Farm and Junda’s Pastry Crust & Crumbs, they had to guess which one came from each place in this recurring segment featuring locally sourced products.

Drink — Northforker Cocktail Challenge

Our Michael Vee visited three bars in Greenport, where he was tasked with ordering up an apple brandy cocktail. It was up to the owners of those three establishments to come up with the remaining ingredients in the drink. See what Noah Schwartz of Noah’s, Andy Harbin of Andy’s and Evan Bucholz of Brix & Rye came up with.

Bird’s Eye View: Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm

The North Fork looks so beautiful from the ground, but what does it look like from up above? In this recurring segment, our Michael Vee will fly his drone over various places across the region. First up for October, Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm in Northville.

Live — Backyard Vineyards

At just 27 years old, Stephen Scarnato of Jamesport has carved out a nice professional niche for himself, tending to residential vineyards at homes across the North Fork and beyond through his company, Long Island Vine Care. We talked to Stephen about how he came into the business, what he loves so much about it and what it takes to manage a backyard vineyard.

What’s Happening: Halloween Fest in Riverhead

Halloween Fest is returning to Riverhead the weekend of Oct. 26 and there will be plenty of fun for families and the ghoul and goblin in all of us. It’s the Northforker TV event pick of the month. See the full schedule, courtesy of Riverhead BID.

Breathe — One Sunset, Three Beaches

A lot of Long Island Sound beaches are discussed as the best place to catch a sunset on the North Fork. So our team of videographers headed to three of them — Wading River Beach, Kenney’s Beach in Southold and 67 Steps Beach in Greenport — to capture the same sunset from three desirable East End locations.
