The school year has started. Harvest is just around the corner. Tumbleweed Tuesday is behind us — but let’s not forget that summer isn’t truly over. Not yet.

This week’s “Wine of the Week” — Bedell Cellars 2017 Sauvignon Blanc — is quintessential Long Island summer captured inside a glass bottle.

The nose is all sunshine and flowers with scents of sweet lemon and lime, white flowers and ripe, juicy honeydew melon.

Medium-light bodied (11.5% ABV) it shows similar flavors with green melon and brighty, juicy citrus joined by a distinct passionfruit note. Brisk and balanced by fresh, lime-juicy acidity, this is the kind of white wine you want to have with simply prepared — even fried — local seafood. Or by itself on one of your last beach days of the year.
