One of the most iconic seafood restaurants on the North Fork is now a destination for New York City pizza.

Lazzara’s Pizza Café in Manhattan has opened a satellite location at Claudio’s in the vacant space nearest the Clam Bar, formerly known as the Clam Bar Express. The midtown pizzeria — regarded for its thin-crust Sicilian slices — opened on the wharf earlier this month serving up made-from-scratch cheese, pepperoni and margarita pizzas. Pies can also be customized.

Brothers Sebastian and Tony Lazzara opened the pizzeria in 1985. The fact that it was a family-owned operation made it a good addition to Claudio’s said Tora Matsuoka, a leading member of Claudio’s management team and co-owner of Sen Restaurant in Sag Harbor.

Claudio’s was once billed as the longest continuously family-owned eatery in the United States until it sold in March. The new ownership group includes well-known asbestos attorney Perry Weitz and his son, David, along with debt relief specialists Ian Behar and Ryan Sasson.

“We wanted to bring Lazzara’s here because they are a long time family-owned and operated business just like Claudio’s,” Matsuoka said. “Their pizza is handmade and they only use premium cheese and ingredients. It’s also New York-style thin crust, just the way we like it.”

Lazzara’s at Claudio’s is opened Tuesday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.; and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.
