Welcome to the summer season on the North Fork. Our monthly round up of can’t-miss events was hard to limit to 10 this time around. July brings so much to offer from farm-fresh bounty to sailing adventures to wine samplings.

Here are some of the best ways to enjoy all this time of year has to offer. You can also check back each Thursday for our Northforker Weekend column to find out about other worthwhile events and happenings. We’ll also have a separate Fourth of July activity guide posting later this week.

Until then, here are 10 things to do this July:

Dances in the Park

The time has come to kick of your shoes and feel the grass under your feet at Mitchell Park in Greenport. Dances in the Park is a must-try summer event for so many reasons. It is hard to not have a good time listening to the band play while the sun sets behind the harbor. It won’t feel like a Monday.

It starts up July 2 and runs each Monday through Aug. 27. Who are Those Guys? are first on the lineup. Other acts include local favorites like Southbound and Gene Casey & the Lone Sharks.

Bring a blanket or some chairs and get there early to claim your spot. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. See the full schedule here.

Wednesday Night Sails in New Suffolk

Join longstanding community tradition each Wednesday evening. Grab a blanket or some chairs — maybe some snacks and a picnic basket — and head to the New Suffolk waterfront to watch dozens of sailboats navigate the harbor.

We suggested getting there for 5:30 p.m. to secure your spot. The boats launch at 6 p.m. You could also watch from Case’s Place and enjoy one of the restaurant’s fresh seafood dishes while you’re at it.

Wednesday Night Cookouts at The Pridwin

Longtime northforker readers have probably picked up on our soft spot for Wednesday Night Cookouts at The Pridwin. Each Wednesday the Shelter Island hotel and restaurant serves up an all-you-can-eat menu chock full of summer favorites: steamed clams and mussels, grilled tuna and chicken, spare ribs and Kobe beef ribs, plus hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and a variety of salads and desserts.

The cookout runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with live music from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Customers can come by land or by sea (dock space is available on a first come, first served basis).

Literary dinner at North Fork Table

North Fork Table & Inn in Southold is teaming up with New York Times bestselling author Judy Blundell for the launch of her novel, “The High Season.” The page-turner is a fictional interpretation of Orient life — and it’s making its way onto a number of summer must-read lists, including one published by Glamour Magazine.

At 5 p.m. July 5, families are invited to dine al fresco at the North Fork Food Truck as Blundell mingles with guests and signs books.

Offerings include lobster rolls, burgers, bánh mì and pastry chef Claudia Fleming’s cookies. Get more information here.

Inside the Cellar at Macari Vineyards

Head to Macari to sample summer wines in the private barrel cellar tucked under the Mattituck tasting room. Taste the latest 2017 sauvignon blanc and rosé releases along with chilled light bodied reds (yes, chilled reds are a worth warm-weather treat).

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. July 7. There is another one July 28. The tasting includes six Macari wines with locally caught pairings. Book your spot.

The North Fork has many talented artisans, including blacksmith Alexa Suess. She is offering a  2 1/2-hour workshop on Sunday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at the North Fork Art Collective in downtown Greenport.

She’ll be teaching participants how to make customized, three sterling silver stacking rings. Along the way, you’ll be shown how to cut and file sterling silver, learn the nuances of soldering and textured forging, and learn the many ways to treat, polish and otherwise finish the rings.

All supplies are included and no previous metal-smithing skills are necessary. Get the deets here.

Shelter Island Black & White Benefit

Noah’s in Greenport will be serving food at the benefit.

If you have not made it to Shelter Island in a while this charitable event is the perfect reason to hop the ferry. The Shelter Island Historical Society’s signature fundraising event is now in its fifth year. Look forward to an evening of cocktails, dinner by Noah’s restaurant, raw bar from Alice’s Fish Market , not to mention, dancing, a silence auction and more.

Pro tip: professional photographer, Eleanor Labrozzi, will take photos of every guest so be sure to wear festive black and white attire. The fundraiser is Saturday, July 21 at Havens Barn and Grounds on Shelter Island. Get your tickets here.

Sunflowers are starting to pop up, too.

Bibs and butter won’t be in short supply at the annual Lobsterfest hosted by the Southold-Greenport Rotary. One of the North Fork’s most beloved summertime activities takes place on Saturday, July 28 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Wharf House at Founders Landing in Southold and raises money for projects that benefit the community.

Guests will have their choice between lobster or steak. Side dishes include steamed mussels, baked potato, corn on the cob, cole slaw and watermelon plus children can enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs.
