The Greenport Farmers Market is returning for its eight season this Saturday. This year the market will set up shop in a new location at the Polo Grounds on Moores Lane just outside the heart of the village.

Its location has changed a few times since its inception — the not-for-profit market was most recently in the parking lot at the corner of South and Second streets — but its mission and many of its vendors remain the same.

“There’s lots of parking and room for us to grow now,” co-organizer Lily Dougherty-Johnson said of the new locale. “People are busy and some people aren’t as mobile as other people so it is nice we still have a place in town for people to get their produce in summer. We also have other local businesses that don’t have a storefront or a farm stand. This is one of their main outlets and it gives people a chance to find new business and support them. That is why we keep it going.”

This year’s vendors include Catapano Farms, Suhru Wines, Surrey Lane Farm and Vineyard, Greenport Jerky Company, Simply Nicki Nut Butters, Alice’s Fish Market, Chaga Island, Wake and Bake Products and 63 South Chill Street Ice Cream. Dougherty-Johnson expects more businesses to be added throughout the season.

The Greenport Farmers Market kicks off Saturday, June 23 and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will continue weekly until Oct. 27.
