It’s time to shake the snow off your boots and hit the town. Spring is here and the North Fork is starting to buzz again.
From a polar plunge to beer and burger deals, here are 10 things to do in April:
Have a burger and a beer
Monday nights are made for beer and burgers. Sink your teeth into one of Love Lane Kitchen’s burgers and wash it down with a cold craft draft beer for just $15 bucks. Beef, turkey, black bean and lamb burgers are on the menu. Each is served with the cheese of your choice on a toasted sesame seed brioche bun and with a pile of garlic fries.

Have a German-style dinner
Bistro 72 is teaming up with Paumanok Vineyards for a German twist on farm-to-fork dining with local wines to match. The $65 five-course menu includes smoked pork paired with the Aquebogue winery’s 2016 Dry Riesling and apple strudel partnered with their 2012 Riesling Late Harvest.
The event is set for Thursday, April 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bistro 72, located at 1830 West Main Street in Riverhead. For reservations call 631-369-3325.
Get gaming on Thursday
Long Ireland is throwing it back on Thursdays with Retro Video Game Night. The Riverhead brewery is teaming up with East End Gaming every Thursday for old school favorites on classic consoles (think: Colecovision, Atari, Nintendo). Games are free to play while you’re enjoying pints from 5 to 8 p.m. Consoles and games will be for sale too.

Retreat to wellness
Treat yourself to a weekend of self-care at The Sound View. Bliss Without Bother is teaming up with the Greenport restaurant and hotel for a series of wellness sessions, tastings and discounted accommodations.
Highlights include massages, yoga on the beach and learning herbal remedies from Maria Christodoulou, founder of Bliss Without Bother. There’s also a farm tour and tasting at Sang Lee Farms.
Each evening concludes with a live cooking demo and dinner by James Beard award-winning chef Galen Zamarra at The Halyard Restaurant.

Take the plunge
The Tunnel of Terror ride opened in 2009.
Be freezing for a reason at the second annual Splish Splash Polar Plunge. Rather than sprint into an icy ocean, participants will take a dip in the Kahuna Bay Wave Pool to help raise money for Special Olympics of New York.
The plunge takes place at noon on Saturday, April 14. Registration is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the day of the event or sign up as an individual or a team in advance online. Anyone who raises at least $150 will receive an official Polar Plunge sweatshirt.
Attend a fair and food truck festival
The Peconic Community School is hosting its third annual Maker Fair featuring local woodworkers, artists, chefs, performers and more on Saturday, April 14. For the first time this year, the festival includes a food truck rally to fuel hungry guests.
The event is being held at the Peconic Community School located at 269 Main Road in Aquebogue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There’s a suggested donation of $10 per family.
Pair wine and cheese
Old Field Vineyards is hosting a wine and cheese paring in its cozy Southold tasting room on Saturday, April 21. Harbor Cheese and Provisions in Northport is guiding the tasting that includes hard-to-find cheeses partnered with the winery’s blanc de noir, chardonnay, cabernet franc and merlot. The $50 price tag includes a $10 credit toward wine purchases.

Get your shuck on
The season isn’t quite ripe for U-pick berries, but U-shuck oysters are right on point. The Wednesday Night Shuckers Club at Little Creek Oysters is held every Wednesday night from 5 to 8 p.m. The event features $5 Greenport Harbor beer, U-shuck and shucked oyster specials.

Paint a personalized wine glass
Paint and sips are not just for canvases anymore. Create your own custom painted wine glasses at Martha Clara Vineyards on Sunday, April 22. Wine of a Kind’s artist Maggie Carine will guide a session that includes two glasses to paint, instruction, supplies and a glass of Martha Clara wine starting at 1 p.m.

Stargaze in honor of Earth Day
Custer Observatory is celebrating Astronomy and Earth Day by looking toward the skies. The family-friendly event from noon to midnight features indoor/outdoor music, educational activities and more.
When the sun sets, the staff of volunteers will be giving tours of the facility and the night sky through the Institute’s powerful telescopes.
The event is being held on Saturday, April 28 at the Custer Observatory located at 1115 Main Bayview Road in Southold.
