Grace & Grit is serving up a taste of India in Southold and they want readers of northforker to help finalize the menu.
The owners of the local catering company are introducing an Indian street food-inspired pop-up menu at their Main Road tasting room Friday night. The latest Grace & Grit pop-up aims to fill a void in the local food scene by serving dishes that aren’t readily available on the North Fork.
“There’s not a lot of ethnic cuisine out here,” said Jennilee Morris, co-owner of Grace and Grit. “It’s fun for us to try something new and offer something for the community to do this time of year.”
On Tuesday, chefs Adam Kaufer and Tim Coughlan tested out some of the possible menu items for the dinner. Now it’s up to northforker readers to decide on the winning entrée.
Head to our Instagram page @the_northforker and choose between one of the following three dishes. (Update: Our readers chose the Chicken Tikka Masala.)
Baingan Bharta: Fire roasted eggplant mashed with spices and aromatics (think baba ganoush with an Indian twist).
Chicken Tikka Masala: Chicken marinated in spiced yogurt and tossed in a rich tomato-based sauce.
Nargisi Kofta Curry: Curried eggs encased in ground lamb in yellow curry sauce (think an Indian version of a scotch egg).
Each of the dishes can be served over basmati rice or “street style,” wrapped in Grace and Grit’s homemade roti (a Indian take on a burrito). Also on the menu are vegetarian chickpea curry, lamb vindaloo and palak paneer, a vegetarian Indian cottage cheese cooked in a spinach curry.
There’s also beer, wine and a speciality cocktail to wash it down. Grace and Grit’s head mixologist, Joe Coleman, will be serving up an Indian riff on a gin and tonic with turmeric infused honey and lemongrass.
Friday’s pop-up, from 4 to 9 p.m., is the first community-involved pop-up hosted by Grace and Grit.
Going forward, Morris is reserving the weekly Friday night pop-up for fan favorites and is seeking help on deciding the menu items, starting with Indian. The burger pop-up night will continue each Thursday at the restaurant.
The food is available for dine-in or take out. No reservations required.
