Every year a surprisingly large number of restaurateurs and artisanal food companies launch North Fork ventures.
From a gleaming Soundfront restaurant headed by a James Beard Award-winning chef to a farm-sourced food truck, this year was no exception.

8 Hands Farm Food Truck
8 Hands Farm rolled out a food truck this year which specializes in items sourced from the farm. Visit their Instagram account for the daily menu. READ MORE
Andy’s
“We really just wanted to open a place in Greenport where a family with young children can sit down and enjoy a good meal together,” co-owner Doug Roberts told us when Andy’s opened in July. It’s named after its other partner, Andy Harbin, one of Southold Town’s most well-known bartenders. READ MORE
Avelino
One of the North Fork’s most popular wineries is now offering wood-fired pizza along with its lineup of food-friendly wines. Avelino, the new food truck serving up Neopolitan-style pies, can be found parked outside Macari Vineyards’ Mattituck tasting room this fall. READ MORE
Barba Bianca
Underutilized North Fork seafood like whelk, eel and mantis shrimp — what is sometimes called trash or junk fish — was the star of the show at the new Barba Bianca restaurant in Greenport. The eatery has since closed for the season. READ MORE
Boom Burger
This Westhampton Beach burger shop opened a Mattituck outpost in January. The menu features specialty burgers, plus chicken sandwiches, Philly cheese steaks, salads, fried pickles, fried Oreos and fried Nutella sandwiches. READ MORE
Brekky
The main attraction at Brekky is acai bowls, along with coffee, iced coffee, muffins and snack foods. It opened in Wading River in May. READ MORE
Goldberg’s Bagels, Greenport
The bagel chain, which operates a Mattituck and Riverhead location, opened in Greenport in June. The new café is housed in the building that was most recently home to a Meson Ole Mexican restaurant. READ MORE
Halyard
Sound VIew, The Long Island Soundfront hotel and restaurant was purchased by a Manhattan-based hotel firm in 2016. A year later, it was renovated and reborn, with the restaurant renamed “The Halyard.” At the helm is James Beard Award-winning chef Galen Zamarra who oversees the 100-seat main dining room and accompanying 40-seat deck. Hampton Chocolate Factory
Hampton Chocolate Factory, which opened a Westhampton Beach storefront in 2016, expanded to Greenport this summer. There the premium milk chocolate is made by Valrhona, which maintains the Ecole du Grand Chocolat in France and the dark is 72 percent cocoa and made by the California-based Guittard. READ MORE
Jamesport Farm Brewery
A former potato farm on Sound Avenue has become Long Island’s first “farm-to-pint” brewery, with many ingredients used in the beer-making process grown on site. READ MORE
Little Lucharitos
Greenport’s super popular taqueria has opened an Aquebogue outpost. Little Lucharitos opens today, Friday, Oct. 27. READ MORE
Olive Branch Café
Turkish and Mediterranean food is officially on the menu in Greenport as The Olive Branch Cafe opened in August. The café, located in three storefronts on Front Street, offers sit-down and take-out options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. READ MORE
Peconic Cellar Door
Peconic Cellar Door, an airy space with a farmhouse chic aesthetic, is the recently opened joint tasting room for winemakers Alie Shaper and Robin Epperson-McCarthy. At Peconic Cellar Door you’ll find Shaper’s two wine brands, Brooklyn Oenology and As If Wines, as well as Epperson-McCarthy’s Saltbird Cellars. READ MORE

Port is an offshoot of Shelter Island’s SALT, which specialized in casual waterfront dining. There you will find steamed clams, lobster rolls and burgers which you can enjoy while overlooking the North Ferry and Greenport Harbor. READ MORE
Puerto Verde
Brothers Efren Perez Rodriguez, Arturo Perez Rodriguez and their brother-in-law, Eugenio De Los Santos opened the Mexican-restaurant Puerto Verde this summer. The restaurant, whose name translates to green port, is located at home of the former Six Three One restaurant in Southold.READ MORE
Riverhead Ciderhouse
With 48 taps behind the bar, Riverhead Ciderhouse pours Lieb Cellars and Martha Clara wines, beer from Long Ireland Beer Co. and Great South Bay, and, of course, cider. It also serves food. The cidery has quickly become one of the most popular destinations on the East End. READ MORE

Scoops & Grinds, formerly Scoops Ice Cream, opened its new Main Road location next to Braun Seafood in February. Along with a new name, the shop has increased offerings, including coffee and specialty drinks, made-to-order cakes and baked goods. READ MORE
