From parades to parties to a coffin race, there are plenty of ways to celebrate everyone’s favorite creepy holiday.

Race of the dead

Yes, you read that right. Folks will be racing homemade coffins down Main Street at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29. If you’d like to participate, check-in is at 1 p.m. and the event gets underway by 2 p.m. You can also show off your coffin a day ahead of time in a contest at Joe’s Garage. Costume parade in Riverhead

A $500 grand prize for originality will be on the line at the annual costume parade at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. This year’s parade route runs from Griffing Avenue to the Peconic Riverfront and additional prizes will be handed out in several categories. Visit halloweenfestriverhead.com to learn more.

Pumpkin carving

East End Arts will host a pumpkin-carving event beginning at noon Saturday, Oct. 28, behind its property on the riverfront. Return that evening to see the bulbs aglow at the Jack O’Lantern Walk. Visit halloweenfestriverhead.com to learn more.

Fun at the aquarium

The Long Island Aquarium will host a masquerade ball at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27. On Saturday, Oct. 28, it will offer half-price admission for children in costume at its “Bats, Barnacles and Broomsticks” event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit longislandaquarium.com for more information or to buy tickets.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Suffolk Theater will get into the act with a screening of the ’70s classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. Visit suffolktheater.com to buy tickets.

Party at Pace’s Dockside

Pace’s Dockside in Mattituck will host a Halloween party Saturday, Oct. 28. Music will be provided by That Motown Band and there will be a costume contest with food and drink specials. Call (631) 315-5252 for more information.

Young Frankenstein

North Fork Community Theatre will continue to present “Young Frankenstein” Oct. 19 through 22 and 26 through 29. The musical, with music and lyrics by Mel Brooks, is based on the 1974 spoof “horror” film starring Gene Wilder. Bob Kaplan directs the production, which will be presented in all black and white – a first for the theater. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $25. Greenport Harbor Brewing Halloween

The Greenport BID hosts its annual costume contest and parade Saturday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. The parade starts at Floyd Memorial Library and ends at Mitchell Park. More info here.

Bug Light Family Cruise

Long Beach Bar “Bug” Lighthouse will be decked in ghoulish decor for this family-friendly event. Explore the lighthouse, join in the games, listen to lighthouse ghost stories, participate in the costume contest and enjoy cider and snacks.

Andy’s Halloween
