North Fork Table & Inn has launched a campaign to nominate its own chef Stephan Bogardus for a James Beard Foundation Award, the food industry’s highest honor.

Specifically, Bogardus is seeking a nomination for the Rising Star Chef of the Year Award, which the James Beard Foundation describes as “a chef age 30 or younger who displays an impressive talent and who is likely to make a significant impact on the industry in years to come.” This is the last year Bogardus will be eligible for the award.

“At age 29, Stephan is continually pushing the envelope with his creative, flavorful, cuisine at this iconic restaurant in Long Island Wine Country,” a spokesperson for North Fork Table & Inn said in an email blast.

Bogardus’ mentor at the Southold restaurant, the late chef Gerry Hayden, was a nominee for the organization’s “Best Chefs in America” award from 2011 through 2014. He was a semi-finalist in 2010. Claudia Fleming, Hayden’s wife and partner in North Fork Table & Inn, won the Outstanding Pastry Chef award in 2000.

The 2018 semi-finalists will be announced on Feb. 14, the nominees on March 14 and the winners on May 7.  Click here to register and make a nomination. The deadline is December 1.

Bogardus and Fleming will also host a farm-to-table dinner at The Beard House on Dec. 19. Click here for more information and tickets.
