History buffs, this Greenport property is for you.

Built in 1848, the Main Road colonial still boasts many vintage features, including a toilet with a pull chain and a hand-painted china basin in one of the first floor bathrooms.

“It was owned by a lot of famous people in their day,” said listing agent Susan Sutton, of Corcoran Group Real Estate. “It has so many of the original features. There’s a lot of history behind the house.”

From Orange H. Cleaves, the same builder behind Brecknock Hall and what is now the Sts. Anargyroi Taxiarchis And Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church on Main Road, the home was recognized by Landmark Preservation Commission for its stunning architectural details.

The seven bedroom,  five bath house has the original servant’s quarters, a formal dining room, four mirror image rooms, a grand center hall with an elliptical staircase, approximately 12 foot ceilings in all rooms and seven marble fireplaces.

“I saw the possibilities for the home, and that’s what really stands out to me,” Sutton said of the home, which is over approximately 5,000 square feet according to Town Records. “It strikes me how solidly built the house is. It’s amazing. The architectural details are just stunning.”

Ms. Sutton said some rooms, including a sunroom and library area, have since been added on, but very little changes have been made to the interior of the house.

Sitting on property just shy of five acres, the expansive parcel also contains multiple outhouses, Sutton said.

“I would describe this home to be second only to Peconic Landing’s Brecknock Hall in grandeur, architectural detail and distinguished provenance,” she said.

The home is listed at $2.9 million.
