Jamesport Farm Brewery celebrates opening weekend

The Jamesport Farm Brewery held its grand opening Saturday afternoon as dozens of people celebrated Long Island’s first “farm to pint” brewery.

“It’s turning out well,” said Anthony Caggiano, the co-owner of the brewery along with Melissa Daniels. “We really didn’t know what was going to happen, but I think just by the amount of people here, I think we’re doing OK.”

The opening day featured live music, outdoor games and a food truck from Christopher Michael Catering.

The brewery currently has seven beers on tap, including one called Northville IPA, which was kegged on Saturday morning and made special for opening day. In addition to beer, the brewery also carries Palmer Vineyard’s chardonnay and two different ciders from the Riverhead Cider House.

Mr. Caggiano said they plan to have at least five to seven on tap at all times and to introduce seasonal beers, like pumpkin spice in the fall and winter ales.

“I absolutely love it,” said Bobby Shephard of Flanders as he sat outside with friends. “I like the way they designed the place and it’s just so relaxing to sit here and have a beer.”

Beth LeStrange of Mattituck also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.

“They set it up really well,” she said while sipping on Summer Ale. “It’s a beautiful location. I think it’s great.”

As part of the opening day festivities, Mr. Caggiano took some guests on a hayride tour around the 43-acre property to show them the hops growing. He hopes to conduct tours regularly so that guests can see all of the ingredients used in the beers are made right on location, including the malting barley.

Mr. Caggiano believes this is a first for Long Island and many of the glasses for the beer feature the phrase “farm to pint.”

“We’re super happy the community is embracing us,” Ms. Daniels said. “They seem to enjoy it and we welcome it all here.”

“Come down and enjoy some liquid deliciousness,” Mr. Caggiano added.

The brewery will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 2 to 9 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
