Another day, another major media outlet highlights all this little corner of the world has to offer.
In a recent Architectural Digest piece titled “How to Enjoy A Perfect Weekend in New York’s North Fork,” the monthly magazine celebrating design offers an itinerary for making the most of a trip to the NoFo, particularly Greenport.
“Long Island’s South Fork has cemented its status as New York’s summer party destination, but the North Fork offers a peaceful antidote to all of the posturing,” writes AD’s Jennifer Fernandez.
That’s a good way to put it.The star of the show? The recently renovated Sound View inn in Greenport and the accompanying Halyard restaurant, which we also highlighted today, got the most digital ink in the piece.
“You’ll now find cedar planks along the partitions, effortlessly cool midcentury-inspired furnishings with a nautical twang, and mottled cork-and-rubber flooring that recalls the pebbly sand on the beach just beyond your private patio or shared deck,” the article states. “Don’t miss the moody piano bar in the lobby, where red banquettes, gilded sconces, and painted waves combine to create an inviting port of call for locals and guests alike.”
A handful of other local businesses like noah’s in Greenport, North Fork Table and Inn in Southold and 8 Hands Farm in Cutchogue also get shoutouts.
And what’s a trip to the North Fork without a stop at Southold Fish Market which AD said is not exaggerating when it claims it has the “best lobster roll” around.
It’s been a high profile summer for the North Fork, with food, travel and real estate scribes writing about the region with increasing frequency .
Last week we reported that the North Fork was the subject of a Vogue writeup. And earlier this month the Wall Street Journal ran a page one story on Lavender By the Bay, while the New York Times took a look at the North Fork real estate market in July and Eater New York wondered if the area is becoming the new Brooklyn in a recent story.
