Saturday, July 1

Start your month and weekend off the healthy way with a visit to the Greenport Farmers Market. Located at 170 South Street, the market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 16.

Vendors in 2017 include Catapano Farms, NoFo Crunch, Greenport Jerkey, Alice’s Fish Market, Surrey Lane Vineyard and Orchard and more.

Sunday, July 2

This three-hour narrated excursion from East End Seaport Museum visits four lighthouses for up-close viewing and passes by five islands. A  seal search is also included in the tour, which departs Greenport at 4 p.m. Tickets are $49 with select discounts for members, veterans, youth and seniors.

Monday, July 3  

The popular Dances in the Park series returns for a new year in time for the extended holiday weekend. No Request Band will play rock hits on the opening night beginning at 7:30 p.m. The series returns every Monday through Aug. 28 with a different musical act each week.

Tuesday, July 4

The Phenix Hook and Ladder company of the Greenport Fire Department is hosting its annual Fourth of July parade and fireworks show at the Polo Grounds on Moore’s Lane. The carnival starts at 6 p.m. with fireworks after dark.

Wednesday, July 5

Each Wednesday up to Labor Day weekend, the Pridwin fires up a delicious all-you-can-eat cookout menu on its expansive front lawn as the sun sets over the Peconic Bay.  This year’s menu will once again include steamed clams and mussels, grilled tuna and chicken,  spare ribs and Kobe beef ribs, plus hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and a variety of salads and desserts. Lemonade, draught beer, iced tea and coffee are also included.

Tickets for adults are $42 this year, children ages 3 to 13 eat for $18 and children under 3 are free. The cookout runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with live music on the deck near the bar from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Reservations can be made in advance by calling (631) 749-0476. A limited amount of dock space is available.

Thursday, July 6

Programa Suenos will host its Fourth Annual Summer Fundraiser at Bedell Cellars at 6 p.m. Food will be provided by Bay Breeze Inn, First and South, Lombardi’s Love Lane Market, Love Lane Kitchen, Lucharitos, North Fork Table and Inn, Stirling Sake and more.

Bedell Cellars, located at 36225 main Road in Cutchogue, will offer a cash bar and music will be provided by Points East. Tickets are $50 per person.

Friday, July 7

Enjoy the best of Mattituck on the first Friday night of the month through October. Love Lane will be closed to traffic with vendors set up in the street.

Participating local businesses will offer special discounts, demonstrations or giveaways in their stores all day. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, July 8

The 60th annual Shelter Island Fireworks show will be held at Crescent Beach at 9 p.m. The annual event on the northern shore of the island is a treat to watch from both sides of Greenport Harbor.

Sunday, July 9

Catch the lavender bloom at Lavender by the Bay before it goes away. The short-lived season is already under way and the farm is open seven days per week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Glory Going Green

 

Monday, July 10

Captain Dave Berson of Glory Going Green offers harbor tours six days per week in the summer. The only cruise boat in New York producing zero emissions, Glory cruises last 45 minutes. It departs from Preston’s Dock at the southern end of Main Street in Greenport at noon and 1:30 p.m. on weekdays with a 3 p.m. cruise on the weekends. It’s $20 for adults with discounts for seniors and children.

Enjoy wine, tacos and live music during Tap Room at Corey Creek’s Twilight Series. Live Music from Points East and Taco Tuesday by Noah’s on the Road Food Truck. The event repeats on  Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer with different musical acts and food trucks.

Thursday, July 13

Don’t miss the first Alive on 25 of the year. Main Street will close to cars to create a walk-through, pop-up festival with live music, food trucks and outdoor seating at local restaurants, and family friendly activities.  The festival starts at 5 and ends around 9:30 pm.

The Red Door Chamber Players will perform a “Salute to America,” a stars and stripes inspired concert at The Custer Observatory at 7 p.m. Concert tickets are $15 for non-members with discounts for members and children. Stick around afterward to see the stars.

When the world becomes too much for you, Shelter Island — the pearl in the prongs of the North and South forks — has thousands of acres of wooded trails, quiet country roads and deserted beaches where you can treat your short fuse with a long walk.

Rio de Janeiro meets the North Fork during Sparkling Pointe‘s annual Carnaval celebration.

Wine Country’s all-sparkling wine vineyard will celebrate the release of its Cuvée Carnaval Rouge on Saturday, July 22 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Live music will be provided by Bossa Nova Band and there will be Brazillian drummers, dancers and “samba queens.” Tickets are $20 and include a glass of sparkling wine and a keepsake flute. Additional wine and food are sold separately.

The Jolly Tars will recreate the music of the golden age of sail with their performance at the East End Seaport Museum. Their presentation features chanteys, ballads and lively clawhammer banjo. The program will also feature anecdotes of the life and times of 19th century sailors and their ships.

The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It is free for museum members and $5 for the general public. Light refreshments will be served.

Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center is hosting a sleepover celebration of penguins.

During the night aquarium-goers will enjoy a presentation on the Arctic birds and a penguin-themed craft. Participants are invited to lay down their sleeping bags next to the aquarium’s shark tank, best buddies tank or near the giant Pacific octopus.
