Peconic Bay Winery in Cutchogue, which closed its tasting room’s doors in 2013, has been resurrected.

Sort of.

Tastings and bottles of New York State wines, ciders and beers have quietly been offered at the winery’s Main Road tasting room since September. The concept is the same as that of Empire State Cellars, a now-closed New York State wine and liquor store at Tanger Outlets, according to longtime Peconic Bay Winery employee Cynthia Caprise.

Empire State Cellars was owned by Peconic Bay Winery owner Paul Lowerre and closed at the end of 2014.

“It was a great idea when we started in 2011,” Caprise said. “But Tanger was not the best venue for it.”

Also for sale at Peconic Bay Winery are remaining bottles of its riesling, a limited selection of New York spirits and two newly released sparkling wines. The sparklers, a 2011 blanc de blanc made with chardonnay and a 2010 blanc de noir made with pinot noir and chardonnay, were produced by former Peconic Bay winemaker Greg Gove and finished by Eric Fry of The Lenz Winery. Both cost $25.

You’ll also find Finger Lakes wines from producers like Wagner Vineyards and Anthony Road Wine Company. Tastings from cideries like Original Sin Craft Ciders and True Believer Cider are being offered, too.

Peconic Bay Winery was purchased by Lowerre and his wife, Ursula, in 1999. The property’s vineyard and grapes are being leased to another Long Island producer and no new bottles are being created.

In 2015, we reported the winery was selling leftover stock from its tasting room, but wasn’t offerings tastings or new releases.

Peconic Bay Winery is located at 31320 Main Road in Cutchogue.
