Sometimes looking forward to a mid-week night out with friends is what you need to get through the work week.

Enter Girls Night Out at Cooperage Inn in Baiting Hollow, a long-running special that offers a $22 two-course price-fixe for women on Wednesday evenings beginning at 3:30 p.m. The deal also includes $5 cosmopolitans and $15 bottles of wine, as well as $3 and $5 desserts.

The Hump Day special frequently attracts large groups, often co-workers, some of whom return every month.

With its cozy, country decor, roaring fireplaces and a solid menu, Cooperage has always been a crowd-pleaser. Those reasons, and the fact that it’s an incentive to get out of the house and reconnect with friends, have made the Wednesday night special a hit.

“The reaction has been great,” owner Jonathan Perkins told us. “It gives an excuse for groups of ladies to get together.”

I visited on a recent Wednesday with a friend and enjoyed a glass of Lenz merlot with an ample and satisfying meal. We were also treated to live music in one of the dining rooms and friendly service.

There are nine entrée choices on the price-fixe menu, including seared fresh atlantic salmon and marinated grilled pork chops. But the standouts for us were the appetizers, which included sesame chicken spring rolls and oven roasted tomato bruschetta.

I ordered the penne alla vodka for my entree, which was served in a tasty pink cream sauce and made for more than enough food for two meals.

We took a peak at the dessert menu, but alas, we couldn’t do it. It seems we overdid it on the pasta.

That flourless chocolate cake was calling our names, though. Oh well. Next time.

Remember, reservations are required. Tax and gratuity aren’t included.

The restaurant also offers a date night special on Thursday nights (two salads, two entrees and a bottle of wine, $58) and half-priced bottles of wine on Fridays.
