Need a direct line from the North Fork to the North Pole? Then visit The Shoppes at East Wind in Wading River, the recently opened shopping village next the hotel and catering hall with the same name.
A bright red, old-fashioned mailbox was recently installed at the entrance to the shopping complex, which is near the intersection of Sound Avenue and Route 25A. It reads “Letters for Santa” and good little boys and girls can drop off their wish lists Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We just got it on November 28 from the North Pole as a special delivery from Santa Claus,” said Maria DiLeo, East Wind’s director of communication and marketing. “The response to the Letters to Santa mailbox has been wonderful.”
Attach a return address label to your letter and you might get a response from the Big Man in Red. Already submitted your letter without a return label? Email DiLeo at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will put you in touch with Saint Nick.
The Shoppes will likely make the mailbox an annual tradition along with its annual tree lighting, DiLeo said. The shopping center is all dolled up for the holiday season.
The complex features 28 stores varying in size from 500 to 2,000 square feet. Stores that have recently opened include Cheese and Spice Market, Little Miss Sew It All, Tweets Ice Cream Café, North Fork Craft Gallery, The Crushed Olive (olive oil and vinegar store), Solntse Hot Yoga and more.
It also features a carousel with horses and other fantasy figures in its courtyard. Ride tickets are available at Tweets.
The Shoppes at East Wind is located at 5768 Route 25A, Wading River.
