Cutting down your own tree just got more fun: Shamrock Christmas Tree Farm in Mattituck is now offering local wine tastings.
The family-owned farm recently began featuring tastings by representatives of Pellegrini Vineyards and Saltbird Cellars. Guests can sample and purchase wine while enjoying carols by a local singer and taking in the site’s life-sized nutcrackers and colorful décor. Tastings take place every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As you explore the farm, you’ll find tasting bars where you can sample a variety of offerings from the two wine producers. Wine will be poured by vineyard representatives, who are happy to share tasting notes answer questions. The service is also a great opportunity to purchase bottles as gifts or to adorn your holiday table.
If the chilly weather makes you hungry, you’ll find a “snack shed” selling soup, hot dogs, New York-style pretzels and North Fork Potato Chips. Additionally, local clams and oysters are served fresh from local waters on weekends.
Shamrock offers a huge fire pit area with plenty of seating where you can warm up, sip wine, grab a bite to eat or just relax. Santa Claus visits Saturdays and Sundays and 14-minute children’s train rides are available from noon to 5 p.m.
