It’s time to get your Santa on.

SantaCon, Riverhead’s annual holiday pub crawl, returns on Saturday, December 10 for a third year.

SantaCon participants dress up in Santa attire, then travel from bar to bar along Riverhead’s Main Street, sampling local beers and food specials.

The event, which originated in San Francisco and spread to other large cities like New York City and London, has now begun to catch on in smaller towns as well.

Organized by the Suffolk Theater, Riverhead’s SantaCon will feature local food and beverage specials, dancing and other entertainment at participating bars and restaurants. Proceeds will benefit SVP Animal Welfare and Rescue Group, which benefits Long Island pets.

“We’ll have Cliff’s Rendezvous, Vines & Hops, Crooked Ladder Brewing Company, Digger’s Ales N’ Eats and Joe’s Garage & Grill,” said Nicole Evers, director of private events at the Suffolk Theater. “At the Suffolk Theater, we’ll have DJ Phil spinning from 7 to 12.”

Bracelets for the event are just $10 and give each reveler access to participating bar and restaurant specials. Bracelets can be purchased online in advance and then picked up at the Suffolk Theater Box Office. They will also be sold at participating bars and restaurants on the day of the event.

Santa Claus costumes and attire are encouraged, but not required.
