Reach for the stars at the Custer Institute and Observatory’s 38th annual Astronomy Jamboree weekend, set for Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6.

The annual three-day event, hosted by the Southold astronomical observatory, includes lectures, celestial observations and the chance to get to know other astronomy enthusiasts. The event is open to both those new to astronomy and seasoned star-gazers.

There will be a wine and cheese social, celestial poetry readings and the performance of the astronomer’s drinking song on Friday night at 6 p.m. The evening will cap off with observations made through Custer’s Obsession telescope, as well as other telescopes brought by participants.

All of Saturday’s and Sunday’s events will take place either at the observatory or at Southold High School. Scheduled workshops include “Solar Observing,” “How to buy your first telescope,” “Steering by the Stars,” along with “Kid Astronomy Storytime” and “Kids Astronomy art & puzzle workshop.”

Saturday evening participants can also enjoy a dinner buffet served at Six Three One restaurant in Southold, then look forward to more observations in the evening.

Sunday’s special events will include a drone demonstration and a rocket launch.

Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for adult members, $12 for students and seniors and $55 for a family of four (two adults, two children). There are also special group rates and a $40 reservation fee is required for Saturday’s dinner buffet at Six Three One restaurant in Southold.
