What could be more fun than biking along the beautiful roads of the North Fork on your way to a delicious breakfast?

That’s the idea behind Riverhead Town’s Bike to Breakfast, which is set for Sunday, September 11 in Riverhead.

BTB is the brainchild of Danielle Doll, cultural affairs supervisor for Riverhead Town’s Recreation Department.

“This ride is open to all ages,” Doll said. “We want to try to have a mix of all generations of cyclists.”

Cyclists meet at 9 a.m. at Stotzky Park in Riverhead. They will bike from there to Briermere Farms on Sound Avenue where they will enjoy a delicious breakfast, then head back.

“There will be coffee, plus beverages for kids, as well as pastries and bagels,” Doll said. “Briermere does do a nice spread there.”

The ride is approximately 13 miles (round trip), but riders will move at a leisurely pace and there will also be a bus following the group in case anyone can’t make the entire trip.

“The ride there is probably six miles,” Doll said. “Then the ride back is about six and a half to seven miles, it’s a different route back to Stotzky Park.”

Volunteers from the Suffolk Bicycle Riding Association will also be riding along as a precaution.

Bike to Breakfast is only $5 per person, but riders must register in advance to save a spot and bring their own bicycles. The registration fee goes towards breakfast.

Doll hopes to have more such cycling events in the future.

“I had done this back in 2010 and it was a hit,” she said. “In the spring I’d like to make it a regular event either as a bicycle club or at least more regularly that just once a year.”

The event is open to everyone, not just Riverhead residents.
