It was 1986 when Ron Goerler Sr. purchased the 165-year-old barn that houses the winery and tasting room at Jamesport Vineyards.

Today, the stately structure is still in use, but Goerler’s son Ron Jr. now oversees production of the nearly 5,000 cases the winery makes each year. And the third generation of Goerlers, Ron Jr.’s children, help out in the vineyard.

Now, one of Long Island Wine Country’s founding families is celebrating 30 years of growing North Fork wine by hosting a “Burning of the Vines” party, where food cooked over old vine branches will be served.

Dan Edgett, who oversees operations of Jamesport Vineyards’ wood-burning oven, will cook over a vineyard bonfire during the party, which kicks off at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14.

“Over the winter the crew goes out and prunes all the vines,” explained Christie Hoyt, the vineyard’s director of retail operations. “We’ve been saving all the clippings.”

During the party, Jamesport will also unveil its new Thimeo wine, a cabernet franc and merlot blend. It was made in collaboration with French cooperage Tonnellerie Bossuet, which makes some of the winery’s oak barrels.

Beginning Memorial Day weekend, the winery will extend its hours until 9 p.m. Friday nights. In a nod to their 30th anniversary, they’ll also offer one flatbread pizza and two glasses of wine for $19.86.

To reserve your spot at the party May 14, call (631) 722-5256 or email [email protected]. Tickets, $40, include one glass of wine and passed hors d’oeuvres. Guest will also have the chance to sample and pre-order the Thimeo blend.
