Greenport has one less seafood restaurant as Blue Canoe Oyster Bar & Grill will not reopen for 2016.

The popular Third Street seafood eatery quietly announced they were closed for good via their Facebook page on April 18.

“Dear valued guests, Blue Canoe will not be re-opening. Thank you for all your love and support over the last three years. Come visit us at Vine Street Cafe or our food truck on Shelter Island,” the post read.

Blue Canoe owner Terry Harwood is also the chef/owner of Shelter Island’s Vine Street Café, which branched out last year with its first food truck.

Surprised fans and customers posted questions on the social media site asking questions, but so far Harwood and his wife, co-owner Lisa Murphy-Harwood, have not offered any explanations. The couple did not return calls seeking comment this week.

Blue Canoe Oyster Bar & Grill opened back in 2012 in the spot where the former Chowder Pot Pub had operated for several decades. It is considered to be one of the most scenic locations in the village, overlooking the harbor with Shelter Island in the distance.
