The Southold Historical Society’s headquarters never looked as chic as it does on the cover of the fall 2016 edition of Accessories magazine.

Model Ulla Reiss, wearing a navy blue fur stole adorned with oversized nature-inspired gold brooches, is featured in front of a barn on the organization’s property in the cover photo shot by Michael Paniccia.

Inside, Reiss is featured in a six-page spread titled “Rustic Flair.”

“Traditional heritage is getting reworked with a rustic yet polished update,” the spread states. “The classic sartorial look is gaining influence from menswear and vintage designs, creating a charming and sophisticated appeal for accessories.”

Accessories Magazine is a trade publication for people in the fashion industry. It forecasts fashion trends for the future to help clothing shops and department stores determine what merchandise to order.

The decision to shoot at the historical society came when the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Lauren Parker — who recently bought a house in Southold — happened to drive by.

“I thought, ‘This would be perfect.’ The theme of this shoot is modern heritage. There’s a lot of English tweeds and English country, but done in an edgy way,” Parker told us during the shoot. “There’s a lot of vintage jewelry, rings piled on and pins, so we’re having fun with it.”

The team decided to shoot outside the historical society’s expansive barn, taking advantage of the building’s rich wood tones, as well as the other structures that populate the property.
