Friday, April 8

An Evening of Comedy

An Evening of Comedy, which benefits Kent Animal Shelter, will take place Friday, April 8 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Hotel Indigo East End.

The show’s proceeds benefit homeless pets at the Calverton shelter. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, Chinese auction, the Kent Volunteer’s traveling pet boutique, adoptable pets, a scavenger hunt, a 50/50 raffle and more.

Saturday, April 9

Customer Appreciation Day: “Spring Open House”

The Long Island Cauliflower Association will host an open house on Saturday, April 9 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Enjoy bagels, donuts and coffee from 8 to 11 a.m. as you shop for plants and seeds. Hot dogs will be served from 11 a.m. to noon. There will also be prizes and giveaways.

The Long Island Cauliflower Association is located at 139 Marcy Avenue in Riverhead.

Early Spring Bird Walk 

Take a morning 2-mile walk through North Fork County Park (also known as North Fork Preserve) at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9.

Hosted by the Eastern Long Island Audubon Societ, the walk is free and will be led by Mary Laura Lamont. The woods, fields and freshwater ponds are excellent habitat for a variety of birds.

Meet at the clubhouse at the end of the entrance road on Sound Avenue in Northville (Riverhead.) The entrance is just east of Church Lane. For more information visit easternlongislandaudubonsociety.org or email [email protected]. Heavy rain will cancel the event.

Wheelhouse Cafe Book Reading

Author and Greenport native Yvonne Lieblein will read from her new novel “The Wheelhouse Cafe” from 3 to 5 p.m. at American Beech restaurant in Greenport.

Lieblein will share stories, songs and snapshots from her book. Special guests, The Second Hands will perform a song from the novel along with some of their original music.

Admission is free and there will be a cash bar. For more information call (631) 477-5939. American Beech is located at 300 Main Street in Greenport. 

Sunday, April 10

Long Island in the Movies

See how Long Island is depicted in Hollywood movies on Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at the Mattituck-Laurel Library.

Film scout and author Monica Randall will share scenes from movies shot on Long Island.

The event is free. For more information and to register in advance call (631) 298-4134. The Mattituck-Laurel Library is located at 13900 Main Road in Mattituck.
