We are 14 days into spring and it has been an unpredictable one with lots of whacky weather including this morning’s whipping winds and light snow fall.
But that doesn’t mean spring colors aren’t popping.
After the crocuses and daffodils bloom nothing cheers up my spirits like seeing a tree, shrub or bush covered in buds or flowers. So I took a tour of Verderber’s Landscape Nursery and Garden Center in Aquebogue, Shade Trees Nursery in Jamesport and Trimble’s of Corchaug in Cutchogue this week to see what they had in store.
At Verderber’s, manager Noreen Ficuciello picked her top five early spring bloomers: Star Magnolia (white); Magnolia soulangiana (pink saucer); white willow Salix alba ‘Trishs’; Azalea (Ever) Hino crimson; and Pieris Japonica ‘cavantine’ which is evergreen.
See them growing below.
