Grammy-winning musician Nile Rodgers is joining forces with East End Arts this spring and summer.

In May the community arts organization will present a “Master Class” with Rodgers, in which the public can learn about songwriting and the music industry directly from the Chic guitarist himself. The class will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 3 p.m. at the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead.

“I am so glad to be partnering with East End Arts and their mission of community enrichment through the arts and education,” said Rodgers. “East End Arts is a prime example of what I believe and stand for.”

Rodgers will also discuss his experiences and insight on the music industry at a special keynote address at the East End Arts ARTworks Gala taking place also on Saturday, May 7, at the East Wind in Wading River.

Well known locally for bringing his FOLD festival to Riverhead’s Martha Clara Vineyards, Rodgers’ music career has spanned several decades and genres. He has produced dozens of mega star musicians like David Bowie, Duran Duran, Diana Ross and Madonna. He is also in demand with newer artists having worked with Daft Punk, Disclosure and Sam Smith.

Rodgers is also the chairman and founder of the “We Are Family Foundation,” a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting programs that inspire and educate the next generation.

Rodgers and East End Arts plan to include local musicians in this summer’s annual FOLD Festival, taking place August 12 to 14 at Martha Clara Vineyards. Those artists will have the opportunity to perform on the main stage alongside Rodgers himself.

Thanks to a generous donation by Nile Rodgers Productions, East End Arts School, which offers music lessons for all ages and levels, will also offer new music scholarships to minority youth on the East End.

The East End Arts School is located at 141 E. Main Street in Riverhead.
