At first glance, the above photo appears to be a field of Canada geese searching for a bit to eat in a frozen farm field.

But if you look a little closer, you’ll see something about these birds is a little off.

“There is a farm field just west of Laurel Lane in Laurel that attracts an unusually large amount of Canada geese — or so I thought,” said our staff photographer, Barbaraellen Koch, who captured the scene above. “A few weeks back I walked across the field to take some photos and it wasn’t until I was about 100 feet away that I realized that they didn’t move. Some had even fallen over.”

What you are seeing is a field of hunting decoys. We’re not sure who placed them there or when. The landowner did not return Ms. Koch’s calls this week.

Still, it makes a cool image.

Enjoy!
